Privacy Policy

The shortest honest version: we hold your email address and the numbers you type in, we use them only to run the app, and you can export or erase everything yourself at any moment. The rest of this page is that sentence in the detail the law (the EU General Data Protection Regulation) rightly requires.

Who is responsible (the controller)

Gen Finance (gen-finance.app) is operated by Jakub Benický, Slovakia, who is the data controller for your personal data. Contact for anything in this policy: support@gen-finance.net.

What we collect, why, and on what legal basis

Account data, your email address and password (stored only as a hash). Used to create and secure your account and to send you the emails that are part of the service (sign-in, payday check-in reminders, monthly receipts). Legal basis: performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Your numbers, the settings (currency, country if you chose one, payday) and the five lists plus monthly snapshots you create. Used solely to show them back to you. Legal basis: performance of the contract. Providing them is your choice: the app simply has nothing to display without them.

Subscription status, whether your subscription is active, and the customer and subscription IDs our payment provider assigns. Used to grant access. Legal basis: performance of the contract.

Calculator unlock, the first name and email address you type to unlock the free calculators, together with the exact sentence you saw and the time. Used to open the tools on your devices and to send you Gen Finance news and offers: new calculators, new lessons, discounts on the app. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given by entering your email under a sentence that says exactly this. You can withdraw it at any moment with the unsubscribe link in every one of those emails or by writing to us; withdrawing stops the emails and leaves the calculators open. The welcome email asks you to confirm the address; unconfirmed addresses are deleted after 30 days.

Security logs, standard technical logs (IP address, timestamps) kept briefly by our hosting providers to keep the service secure and prevent abuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure service (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Visit counts, a tally of how many times each public page was opened on a given day, and whether the visit arrived from a link we shared (we keep the campaign tag in the link, or otherwise the bare hostname of the referring site, such as “reddit.com”). We use it to see whether our own marketing brings anyone here. There is no row about you: we do not store your IP address, your device, a cookie, an identifier or a fingerprint, and we keep no clock finer than the calendar day, so two visits by one person and one visit each by two people are the same thing to us. Because what is kept is an aggregate count that identifies nobody, it is not personal data, and because nothing is stored on or read from your device, no consent is required for it. Legal basis, to the extent one is needed at all: our legitimate interest in knowing whether our marketing works (Art. 6(1)(f)).

We do not sell your data, we show no third-party advertising, we run no third-party analytics, no advertising pixels and no cross-site tracking of any kind, we never profile you, and we make no automated decisions about you. The only marketing we do is our own news and offers, sent only to people who asked for them at the calculators, and every one of those emails carries an unsubscribe link. Exchange rates come from the European Central Bank’s public feed without sending anything about you. Gen Finance is not directed at children under 16.

What we never have

Your bank credentials. Gen has no bank connection by design, no transaction scraping, no open-banking tokens, nothing to leak. Your full card details go directly to our payment provider and never touch our servers.

Who processes data for us

We use a small set of service providers, each bound by a data processing agreement:

Supabase (database and authentication, data stored on AWS in London, United Kingdom, a country covered by an EU adequacy decision) · Vercel (application hosting) · Resend (email delivery). Where a provider processes data in the United States, transfers are safeguarded by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.

Lemon Squeezy is our merchant of record: it sells the subscription, processes your payment and handles VAT and invoices as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.

How long we keep it

For as long as you have an account. Delete your account (Settings → Delete account) and everything we hold is erased immediately and permanently, no retention window, no backups of your numbers kept beyond the routine short-lived infrastructure backups of our providers. Lemon Squeezy retains invoices for as long as tax law obliges it to.

Calculator unlock data is kept while you are subscribed. Unsubscribe and your name and the page you came from are wiped at once; we keep only your email address and the dates you signed up and left, as a record never to write to you again. Ask us and we delete that too. Addresses that never confirm are deleted after 30 days.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us for access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or a portable copy of your data, you can object to processing based on legitimate interest, and you can withdraw any consent you gave, with effect from that moment. The two most useful ones are built into the app: Settings → Download my data, and Settings → Delete account, both work instantly, no email required. For anything else, write to support@gen-finance.net and we will answer within one month.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, the one in your EU country, or the Slovak authority (Úrad na ochranu osobných údajov Slovenskej republiky, dataprotection.gov.sk).

Cookies

We set only the cookies strictly necessary to keep you signed in. Details on the cookie page. Because there are no tracking or analytics cookies, there is no consent banner to click through. The calculators keep two small values in your browser’s local storage, the currency you picked and the token that remembers you unlocked them; both are settings you asked for, and neither leaves your device.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will tell you by email before the change takes effect. The date at the top always shows the current version.
