Cookies

You may have noticed Gen Finance has no cookie banner. That is not an oversight. It is because we only set cookies that are strictly necessary to sign you in, and EU law (the ePrivacy Directive, Art. 5(3)) does not require consent for those. No advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, no third-party trackers. There is nothing to consent to.

The cookies we set

Authentication (sb-…-auth-token) , set by our authentication provider, Supabase, when you sign in. It is your session: without it the app cannot know you are you. It refreshes while you use the app and is removed when you sign out. Depending on size it may be split across a couple of cookies with the same name and a numeric suffix.

That is the complete list of cookies. If we ever add one that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent first, as the law requires.

Local storage on the calculators

The free calculators keep two values in your browser’s local storage, which is not a cookie and is never sent to us: gf-currency, the currency you picked, so the next tool opens in it; and gf-unlock, the token that remembers you unlocked the calculators, set when you submit the unlock card or open the link in your welcome email. Both exist only to do what you asked for, which is the strictly-necessary category the ePrivacy Directive exempts from consent. Clear your site data and they are gone; the calculators will simply ask again.

How we count visits without cookies

We do want to know whether anyone is reading, so each public page adds one to a counter when it opens. What that counter holds is a number per page per day, plus where the visit came from: the campaign tag on a link we shared, or the bare hostname of the site that linked to us. That is all of it. No cookie is set, nothing is written to or read from your browser, and no identifier, IP address or fingerprint is stored, so we cannot tell your second visit from somebody else’s first, and we are not trying to. Consent rules are about storing and reading things on your device; this does neither, so there is nothing to ask you for and nothing for you to turn off.
